Huge Success for a Small Organization
CASE STUDY: ALAMEDA COUNTY SHERIFFS’ DEPUTY LEAGUE
The Alameda County Sheriffs’ Activities League, also known as DSAL, is an Oakland, CA based inner-city soccer club of 1,800 players at varying competition levels managed by the Alameda County Sheriff’s office. The program acts as a bridge between the police force and the community and uses the sport of soccer to build community, prevent crime, support healthy outcomes, and as a means for character development.
When Cogeo first entered into its client partnership with DSAL, the organization already had a strong three-year plan for infrastructure and programmatic growth. Additionally, it had a talented Executive Director in place and dedicated financial and operational support from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department.
From a development perspective DSAL was a pure start-up organization with virtually all of its funding sourced from city and county resources. Cogeo structured and implemented the creation of DSAL’s case statement as part of its launching of DSAL’s major-gifts program. The following are additional tactical elements Cogeo installed as part of its development work with DSAL:
Cultivation Events
Corporate Engagement Advisement
Foundation Outreach Advisement
Sheriff’s Department and Engagement of Public Entities
RESULTS
During its time with Cogeo, DSAL has received foundation grant commitments totaling $750,000 and additional commitments from government entities totaling $3.5mm.
